GREAT COMMISSION
The Great Commission is the instruction of Jesus to his disciples, that they spread the faith to all nations of the world. It is described in the book of Matthew 28:16-20. Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (NIV) |
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
At Wakonda Christian Church we believe in reaching out to our neighbors in our community. On this page you'll find just a few of our many outreach opportunities. Our strong belief in community outreach is deeply rooted in the Great Commission, contained within the book of Matthew. Refer to the Great Commission section on the left-side of this page for more information. WAKONDA QUILTERS
The Wakonda Quilters combine their passion for the Lord with their love of sewing to make quilts for a variety of charities. Past donations have been given to Operation First Response, Blank Children's Hospital, and Bidwell Riverside Center. Most of the members are beginners. Anyone can join! Call Lisa Msuya at 515-246-0454 for more information. WAKONDA LITERACY CENTER
The Wakonda Literacy Center is focused on improving the reading ability of children from local elementary schools. Each child is partnered with a single mentor throughout the duration of the program. The program has been very successful and most of the volunteers continue to be involved with the Literacy Center year after year. The Wakonda Literacy Center meets weekly during the school year. For more information, please contact the church office at (515) 285-8394.
Hope Ministries is a privately funded Christian outreach ministry which provides programs and services to meet the spiritual, physical and emotional needs of men, women and children who are homeless or in need of hope in central Iowa. For over 125 years (through Bethel Mission and Door of Faith) they have been a faithful and consistent force in bettering our community through their non-denominational Christ-centered services to the least, the last and the lost. Wakonda works to support Hope Ministries by providing financial support and volunteer opportunities for the congregation. Visit Hope Ministries at www.hopeiowa.org
Kids Against Hunger is a volunteer-driven effort to package and distribute food in communities worldwide where hunger and starvation is rampant. Kids Against Hunger harnesses volunteer groups - such as school, church, civic and scouting troops - to package food and prepare it for distribution to areas of the world where people are starving. To date, nearly 40,000 Kids Against Hunger volunteers have successfully packed millions of servings of food for worldwide distribution! Wakonda continues to support this ministry through the volunteer efforts of our congregation. Visit Kids Against Hunger at www.feedingchildren.org |
