Seth

Seth Hedquist is a musician and historian living in Des Moines. He teaches guitar to students of all ages at the Central Iowa Music Lab and performs with local and national acts. In recent years he has performed at the Des Moines Civic Center with Tony Award-winning Broadway musicians such as Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster, and Kristin Chenoweth, and for musical productions like Beautiful: A Carol King Musical, Something Rotten!, and Chicago.

Seth holds a master’s degree in history from Iowa State University, and is the 2016 recipient of the Iowa History Center’s ‘Outstanding Master’s Thesis’ award for his graduate work The Chronicles of Agrimusic. He is also the author of “Boost the Farm Bureau: Agricultural Leaders, Progressive Musicians, and Social Orchestration in Iowa, 1921—1937,” a peer-reviewed article to be published in the Journal of Agricultural History this spring. His research focuses on the relationship between local musicians and agricultural leaders in the 1920s and 30s. Above all, he loves spending time with his wife, Kathryn.
